Delete your Plant Scholar account

Option 1: in the app

1. Open Plant Scholar and sign in.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap Delete account in the Danger Zone and confirm.

If you have not finished setting up your profile, the Delete account option is on the profile setup screen.

Your account is closed as soon as you confirm, and you are signed out.

Option 2: without the app

Email info@plantscholar.org from the email address registered on your account, or include the phone number registered on your account, with the subject "Delete my Plant Scholar account". We close your account within 30 days of verifying your identity; your personal data is then erased 30 days later.

What is deleted

When your account is closed, you can no longer sign in and your account is hidden from everyone. An account deleted in the app is closed immediately.

Your personal data - name, phone number, email address, password, date of birth, institution details, identity documents and profile photo - is permanently erased automatically 30 days after your account is closed.

Until your data is erased, the phone number and email address on your account cannot be used to create a new account.

What is kept, and for how long

• Trees, measurements and photos of trees you recorded remain part of the project's records, no longer linked to your name or contact details.
• Server backups containing your personal data are overwritten within 35 days after it is erased.
• Data we must keep under tax or commercial law is kept for the statutory period.
